Aftercare Three-Quarter Program The Three Quarter Aftercare Program A program to support independent living for recent Serenity House graduates
Young men who have recently completed our long-term treatment program at Serenity House and who have left with our blessing are eligible for our Three-Quarter Aftercare Program. The minimum requirements are participation in our weekly Group Therapy sessions led by a Serenity House staff member. Of course, they may not use alcohol or drugs.
With our guidance, the most recent graduates make a plan for sober living with other Serenity House graduates or people we know are sober and safe. We encourage them to have jobs and pay for some of their own expenses, even though often they are college students and their education is funded by parents or scholarships.
The graduates who have been in the Three-Quarter Aftercare Program for a year or more no longer need our guidance in making plans or house rules. They continue to come to weekly Group Therapy. They also may call on us at any time if they have a problem.
In the Three-Quarter Aftercare Program, our young men learn to depend more on peer support and less on professional help, a shift that is necessary for adult, interdependent living. The change does not mean that professional support is withdrawn; support from Serenity House is always within reach.
A client who sees that his housemate is in danger or in relapse will call us and tell us so that we can intervene. Most of the aftercare participants have internalized, while at Serenity House, the belief that they are indeed their brother's keepers. |
